Career Opportunities

VinUniversity Career Services guide students through the R.E.D.I. Roadmap (Reflect, Explore, Develop, Implement) and 5C Model—offering career exploration, workshops, 1-on-1 counseling, mentoring, and career fairs. Through the EXCEL framework, students build key skills and gain real-world experience via work-study roles and internships with top companies. Support continues up to two years after graduation. Additional resources include job search tools and the Career Development Guidebook. VinUniversity works closely with industry partners to bridge academics and employment.
Internship Guidelines and Policy Overview

Type Internships at VinUniversity can be full-time or part-time, and may be clinical, professional, or industrial placements. They can be either paid or unpaid, and take place onshore or offshore.

Please note that volunteer work, problem-based learning, simulations, case studies, and field trips are not classified as formal internships under VinUniversity’s guidelines.

Sources Internships can be:

    • Student-sourced (independently secured by the student)
    • VinUniversity-sourced (from available placements)
  • Directly arranged through structured internship programs
Format Internships may be done onsite/directly or remotely/virtually as long as the internships provide a relevant experience, the students receive adequate training, and the supervisor provides regular communication/feedback.
Criteria to qualify as a valid internship
  1. Must be an extension of the classroom that provides for applying the knowledge gained in the classroom.
  2. The skills or knowledge learned must be transferable to other employment settings.
  3. Have a defined beginning and end with desired qualities.
  4. Have clearly defined learning objectives/goals related to the professional goals of the student’s academic coursework.
  5. Have supervision from VinUniversity with expertise and educational and/or professional background in the field of the experience.
  6. Have frequent feedback from the experienced supervisor to students and faculty advisors.
  7. Have resources, equipment, and facilities provided by the host employer/host organization/host startups that support learning objectives/goals.
Pre-requisites Before starting a formal internship, students must successfully complete either the Fundamental Internship Readiness Program or the Internship Orientation Program provided by VinUniversity.
Academic credit for internships An internship may be credit or non-credit bearing. Academic credit for internships can be taken up to twelve (12) credits per regular semester. Baseline requirements for Credit-Bearing Internships:

    1. Internship Request Form (IRF) completion by host site and approval by the College
    2. Must be an on-the-job learning experience.
    3. Registration within the first 3 weeks of the semester (except late adds and summer semester). Retroactive credit is not permitted.
    4. Have completed all required Foundation courses.
  • For full-time internships: Minimum duration of each 7 weeks for Fall and Spring semesters and 6 weeks for summer semester.
  1. For part-time internships: Minimum duration of 240 hours each semester.
  2. Have 2.0 overall GPA, and all pre-requisites from supervising the academic department.
  3. Student and Host Organization evaluations of learning objectives/outcomes plus a student reflection paper.
Grading All internships are graded either on Pass/Fail or Letter Grade, depending on the course syllabus. The grading scheme should be communicated with students prior to the internship.
Faculty mentoring, reporting and supervision Each student will be assigned with a Faculty mentor matching with the faculty expertise areas, to allow interaction between the faculty and the industry for research, executive education, and consultancy projects etc.

Withdrawal from an Internship Permission is only granted in cases of serious illness, serious personal affliction or for approved academic issues.

Before the Internship starts After the Internship starts
– Notify at least 2 weeks prior to the start date so that the University has ample time to notify the Host Organization. Immediately notify the Office of Career Services or the Faculty Internship Mentor.

– Based on the circumstances and reason for withdrawal, the Program Director and the Faculty Mentor will determine the final outcome of the course.

Students who leave an internship without permission
– be assigned a grade of “F-Fail” on the course

– be dropped from subsequent internship courses.

– be required to withdraw from the internship program and are no longer eligible to receive the Internship designation, regardless of the number of work terms completed.

Dismissal from an Internship Students may be removed from an internship at any time by their Host Organization or Home College. In such cases, students must meet with the Program Director or Faculty Mentor to determine the outcome.

Possible reasons for dismissal include:

  • Failure to complete required prerequisite courses
  • Excessive unexcused absences
  • Unprofessional behavior (e.g. absenteeism, early withdrawal, failure to submit reports, workplace misconduct)

Other authority from University and College over Internship Colleges may evaluate a student’s readiness, fitness, or suitability to begin, continue, defer, or withdraw from an approved internship based on current regulations. If needed, colleges will provide support and guidance, including help with alternative arrangements or transferring to a suitable course without internship requirements.

  • Students are responsible for their behavior and interactions during internships. They must comply with VinUniversity’s Student Code of Conduct, the host organization’s policies, and all legal obligations
  • Students participating in VinUniversity-sponsored or VinUniversity-facilitated international internships, would be required to sign a Hold Harmless and Code of Conduct agreement before they depart.
  • Disclose any issues that may affect their ability to complete the internship
  • Report any safety concerns or risks See appendix 3 for Internship Grievance procedure.
  • Be aware of and meet additional insurance requirements
  • Maintain professionalism, integrity, and punctuality
  • Follow the host’s dress code and workplace standards

Internship Host Organization Provides a structured learning experience. Must assign a supervisor and conduct at least two feedback meetings (midpoint and end).
Host Organization Supervisor Professionally oversees the student’s work onsite or virtually, assigns tasks, and offers regular feedback.
Program Director VinUniversity faculty member overseeing student internships to ensure a meaningful learning experience.
Director of Career Services / Faculty in charge of Internships at VinUniversity Colleges Evaluates and approves internships for academic credit based on departmental criteria; may manage internship-related courses.
Faculty Mentor Assesses student performance and supervisor feedback to assign a for-credit internship grade.
Office of Career Services Supports and administers the internship program, liaises with employers, runs preparation workshops, and advises students and faculty.

1. Validate Host Organization

Career Services sends the Internship Request Form (IRF) to the host after receiving a student request.
Timeline: As soon as request is received

2. Submit IRF for Academic Credit

Host organization submits completed IRF via email or CSM system.
Timeline: At least 3 weeks before internship start date

3. Academic Credit Approval

The designated academic approver reviews and approves the internship.
Timeline: Within 1 week of IRF submission

4. Notification & Record Keeping

Students and hosts are notified; documents are archived in the CSM system.
Timeline: Within 1 week of approval

Note: Not all internships on the CSM system are credit-eligible. Students must confirm with their College.
